This is probably pretty basic, but how do I download iTunes to my iPhone so I have the iTunes icon as one of the options? Thanks.

You don't. The iTunes App is a built in App and can neither be removed nor installed independently.

If you can't find it, make sure its not restricted under Settings->Restrictions->iTunes Store
Appreciate your response. I do have that icon but it says iTunes Store. What my real issue is, is that my syncing won't work between my iPhone and Macbook, and the solution apparently includes having to open iTunes, but I click on the icon you referenced and I just get a list of Trending Searches. I figured I should be able to get the same iTunes I have on the laptop.
iTunes does not run on the phone, it runs on your Mac. make sure you're running the latest version of iTunes on your Macbook.

There is no "iTunes app" on your iPhone ... there is a Music app, and a Video app, both of which have content that you sync from your Mac's iTunes library (or iCloud).
If you're having trouble syncing content from your Mac to iPhone, the solution would start with opening iTunes, but that is in reference to iTunes on your Mac. Maybe describe your sync problem, i.e. exactly what steps you've tried and what the results and/or error messages are when you try.
If you are being instructed to open iTunes, it is the iTunes on your computer that you need to open.
iTunes Store on the iPhone is for purchasing content. The Music app on the iPhone is used to listen to content. iTunes on your computer is for syncing your iPhone to your computer.
No. iTunes as is on your laptop does not exist for iPhone nor is it required. ITunes on your laptop syncs data, music, videos, books, apps etc.. to your iPhone and into the appropriate App on the iPhone.
So Music will go into the Music App, Videos into the Videos App etc...
Any solution that involves opening iTunes is always referencing iTunes on your computer.
In any case, why can't you sync? What happens when you try to sync? Do you get an error? If so what does it say.
