Q: Question on download folder

I use download folder very often.

I know how to put a download folder in the dock, yet, is there a way I can put the download folder in the dock so that when I click it, it opens its folder instead of showing its contents?

Seeing contents is a bit confusing than seeing its folder so I prefer to open it up.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

Command Click the folder shows in finder.
From the finder window Alt Command L opens in finder
