Is Migration Assistant hung?

Migration Assistant is copying ~150 Gbytes from a Time Machine and it has looked frozen for ~20 hours after it left a message "Looking for applications and documents to transfer...". Is the Macbook hung? I am afraid to turn it off as I don't know, and I wish there were a spinning dial or something!
