Apple SSD Trim enabler

Hello,

I have just bought a Macbook Air MID 2011 with Apple SSD SM256C. The question is:

Do I have to use Trim Enabler by Cindori and other SSD tweaks such as disabling hard disk sleep, etc, as this is natively built-in disk by Apple itself?

I know that when you upgrade other vendor SSDs (in MBPs, for example) previously mentioned tweaks are recommended!

Thanks!

Hi Cunnla,

thanks for your swift reaction. I ran Etrecheck and focussed on the performance ('Computer is too slow') and it produced the below report. I was recommended Disk Sensei and it automatically enabled TRIM (so I was happy not to go into using Terminal...). My first impression however is not that SSD speed increased.

With regard to your question about Sierra, Apple states that Sierra can only be installed on MBP if the laptop is younger than 2010. Mine is from 2009.

Looking forward to your reply.

Your main problem seems to be RAM-related, but you don't necessarily have to upgrade the RAM, you could try removing a lot of software you probably don't use much anyway, especially CleanMyMac and the Symantec stuff. See the advice of stevejobsfan0123 in this thread: Re: fix for slow wake up of iMac

Go through all your apps and delete those you don't really need. Some of them may need to be uninstalled through the developer's website.

I advise not having any startup items on login. If you need something, start it yourself. They could be using RAM in the background even if you are not using the app. Go to System Preferences / Users & Groups / Login items and use the - button to remove them all.

Use Safe mode to do an Apple-recommended check and cleanup and then restart as normal.

Hope this helps.🙂

P.S. If you are thinking about upgrading the RAM, consider the cost (including shipping) and that your battery has 1,000 charge cycles chalked up, so that may have to be replaced fairly soon.

Hi, regarding TRIM I'm a novice.... I currently use El Capitan (version 10.11.6) on my old Mac Book Pro (but with SSD). Someone just recommended to enable TRIM on my laptop. Can someone please advise how to proceed ? I understand that some OS's got TRIM on board ? Do I have to install it and what supplier then is recommended ?

Thank you very much in advance from my v-e-r-y- s-l-o-w MacBook......!

You don't have to install anything. Here is an OSX Daily article telling how to do it. But be careful in using Terminal.

http://osxdaily.com/2015/10/29/use-trimforce-trim-ssd-mac-os-x/

You say yours is an old Macbook. Can it not run Sierra?

And very slow!! Is that why you want to try TRIM? There could be other reasons for the slowness. If you feel so inclined, run this program http://etrecheck.com/and post the results here. It is a safe program and highly regarded (mostly) on these forums.
