Q: Is iWeb a substitute for Adobe Contribute

Someone developed a business website for me 12 years ago. For the past ten years I have been using Adobe Contribute to update/modify that website. However, once I installed OS 10.10 Yosemite, Contribute would crash upon opening. I contacted Adobe Contribute and was told Adobe Contribute is NOT compatible with Yosemite. There is no update from Adobe at this time. I need to update my business website however.

It is not clear to me if I can import my website into iWeb for updating and if so how to do that.

Or, alternatively, is there a simple application (non-Apple) I should use that is Yosemite compatible?

I am using an iMac 27 inch (2011), 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, OS 10.10.1

    iWeb is now discontinued.

Without knowing how complex your website is or what kind of features you require, it's hard to make a suggestion. Especially given my limited knowledge of Adobe Contribute. I honestly wouldn't know what to compare it to, sorry.

I have a feeling you'd be better served to look at something other than iWeb, however.

Did Adobe have any suggestions at all?

iWeb does not have any import facility, so no, you would not be able to import your site into iWeb - you would have to re-build it from scratch.

Also, iWeb is no longer supported or sold by Apple and this has been the case for over 2 years now.

You would do better to look at other alternatives and if you already have a website, you need one that has an import facility.

If you have been using Adobe software, then the alternative that works with Yosemite and has import facilities is of course DreamWeaver.

Another alternative with import facilities is Flux V.  Both have quite steep learning curves.

Your other alternative of course is to re-build the site from scratch, so you could look at EverWeb as an alternative there or if it is for a business site, then try the Content Management Systems, such as Drupal, Joomla or WordPress - these are better for business sites and you can allow membership too.

Yes, Adobe's suggestion was to use OS 10.7 or 8, which of course is not very helpful.

Why did they not suggest DreamWeaver instead?  This would have solved it or solve it for you and it should work with Yosemite, but it is a steep learning curve.

Why not take a look at all the alternatives that I have suggested above?

Thank you for your input. I don't know why Adobe didn't suggest Dreamweaver. Maybe he thought I was looking for an inexpensive alternative -- or that I wanted to be able to continue using Contribute (hence the suggestion of going back to OS 10.7 or 8).

At your suggestion I have looked at Flux V. I like the idea that it is designed specifically for Mac. I also like that it is less expensive than Dreamweaver. I don't do a lot of website work. I only make changes a few times a month. I contacted Flux V and they confirmed that I can import and/or make changes to my existing site. So, I am going to give Flux V a try.

    Thank you again.

Strange. If you are the one in this link, it appears you asked  the question in the Flux forum 1 hours after you started this topic in Apple Discussions.

    Wyodor.

Strange? Why Strange? Ethmoid suggested on this discussion that I check out Flux V. So I went to Flux V and checked it out.

I'm not even sure what the point of your comment is? What are you suggesting?
