Moving data en masse

I need to be able to move large amounts of data left or right when in Arrange mode and would prefer not to have to drag-enclose it all and use Move Event to do it. IS there a way to do it? At the least, can all the data to be moved be selected by some means other than drag-enclosing? Lsastly, I sdometimes have empty space that I want to delete, thus to move the data closer. IS there a way to do this?
