Q: How can I remove the greyed/phantom U2 songs that Apple put on my iTunes?

This is bothering me quite a bit. Ever since Apple intrusively put the latest U2 album on everyones device, for me, it lead from one problem to another. First I managed to remove the files from my device but now I have a problem where a few songs are just sitting in my iTunes database as phantom files. It is more annoying to see these files also being reflected on my iOS devices. If I do a shuffle play, the audio just shuts off when it comes to this file.

Does anyone have any input on this?

Happy Holidays! Here are the instructions to remove the U2 album:
Remove iTunes gift album "Songs of Innocence" from your iTunes music library and purchases - Apple Support
http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201396

To remove this album:
Go to https://itunes.com/soi-remove.
Click Remove Album to confirm you'd like to remove the album from your account.
Sign in with the Apple ID and password you use to buy from the iTunes Store.
You'll see a confirmation message that the album has been removed from your account.

If you downloaded the songs to iTunes on your Mac or PC or to the Music app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you'll need to delete them manually.
