Why chose mute to UNmute?

Hey, folks at Apple, why do you make us crazy with your mute switch confusion?

Maybe a caveat would be useful, like:

Choosing lock auto rotate will make you crazy because some of your apps will have no sound. Sounds are mute? Then click on MUTE, so your app won't be mute.

You guys are getting as bad as Microwhatsit.

You don't undertand how the system sounds and screen lock work. Do you really think that people would buy a device that will not allow sound and the screen to be locked or unlocked at the same time?

System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.

Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.

If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.

If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center if you are running iOS 7 Or iOS 8. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.

If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.

This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

Thank you both, Jim and Demo, for your comments, which helped clarify something that mystified me.

Under the slide switch menu in general settings there is a choice of Lock Rotation or Mute. LOCK ROTATION was already chosen on my iPad.

When I chose MUTE, a Medication App which would not play an alert sound subsequently functioned properly (was no longer mute).

I must credit http://smartyearsapps.com/ipad-audio-apps/ for its help. I so miss the days when Apple was simple and intuitive.

Please forgive the rant and thank you again.
