My macbook is overheating for no reason

Since i've installed Yosemite, I noticed that my fans are always running on high level (6000rpm) for no reason. As soon as I open it the cpu starts overheating (between 195 and 205 degrees) even if there's no apps using significant energy. I just wanted to know if there's any solution or should I take an appointment at Genius bar because I already tried to reset the SMC or the PRAM with no results.

There's no harm in taking it in, of course. But one thing you can do now is to have a look at all running processes via Activity Monitor. Show "All Processes" and sort by CPU to see if there are any "under the hood" processes which are running out of control. These may not be displayed in the menubar thingy.

Processes out of control usually result from some incompatibility with third party software. One way to troubleshoot this is to see if the bad behavior persists while (1) logging in as a different user, e.g, Guest, and/or (2) starting up in Safe Mode.

Well, you certainly appear to have a problem. Lots of system processes are failing to run and, presumably, the system is repeatedly trying to run them causing all the heat. I don't know if it some third party software you have installed which is incompatible with Yosemite, or if you have a broken installation. Try starting up in Safe Mode to test out the former possibility.

Dec 11, 2014 4:46 AM in response to Jeffrey A-C

I would just start up in Safe Mode and see if the overheating occurs and, in particular, if the launchd process is still working too hard. You could also run etrecheck and see if all those system processes are still failing to launch. If everything is working properly in Safe Mode this suggests some third party software is interfering with your system, e.g., that meraki thing. If the problems persist in Safe Mode, I would consider re-installing the system.

Seems much more better
