No Generate an App-Specific Password option

I'm trying to set up my iCloud mail in Postbox. It seems I need an app-specific pwd.

Apples's instructions are:

  1. Go to My Apple ID.
  2. Select Manage your Apple ID and sign in.
  3. Select Password and Security.
  4. Click Generate an App-Specific Password and follow the steps on your screen.

However, when I do this there is no "Generate an App-Specific Pwd" option to click!

Anyone got any clues? Thanks.

This is the key issue......where is it? how come everywhere they say go that option to generate one?

This is a 3 year old discussion and it isn't clear to me exactly what you are asking. During that time Apple has implemented a newer option in security.

If you are asking where to go to generate an app-specific password, see Using app-specific passwords - Apple Support

If that isn't the question, you may want to start a new discussion with more details.

Do you have 2-step verification enabled for your Apple ID? If you do the words "Two-step verification is enabled" should be near the top of the Password and Security page of Manage Your Apple ID and the Generate an App-Specific password should be further down as shown in the screenshot below.

If you don't have 2-step verification enabled, you don't need an app specific password.

2-step is a bit off the original topic but I've been wondering...

If I lose my phone and wallet I need to find contact numbers and account details to report the loss? I go to the nearest browser to access iCloud or Google Apps and discover the app wants to send me a code to give me access and I don't have phone. What happens?

Thanks

I have a second text number (my wife's cell phone) set up where the code can be easily sent. I would need to call or text her from someone else's phone in order to get the code. Both Apple & Google 2 step also have backup codes or recovery codes, which for me would be more difficult to get to if I needed them quickly.

I've been using 2 step from everyone that offers it for the last year or so (shorter in the case of more recent offerings). There was a small initial learning curve of figuring a few things out (like the app specific password thing) but once set up it has been completely painless.
