upgrade windows 7 to 8 no ipod detection

Hi,

I have recently updated from Windows 7 to Windows 8 and since then my ipod doesn't get detected by Itunes and windows itself.

the error message that pops up when my ipod is connected is : "An IPod has been detected but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the ipod, then try again."

I have followed the steps in a forum how to check if it comes up in the device manager, which it doesn't show up. I have also checked that the Apple mobile Device Support does show up in the list of installed programs.

Can you please advise and help to get my ipod to get identified by iTunes and windows?

Thanks in advance.

Cherese
