Problems with ST1000LM024 hard drive

Hi, everyone!

Few months ago I bought a new iMac 21,5 with ST1000LM024 hard drive (1Tb). While using the computer sometimes it stops answering and sometimes the icon of a folder with a question mark then appears. Restart (turn on button) and drive check then it shows the drive is 100% valid and ok. I re-installed the system on a clean Mac and deleted all the applications not from an AppStore. It does not change anything. Last time on a clean system it worked for one week with no problems but now it appears again. Any solutions? Just don't want to waste my time going to service centres and changing the hard drive to another one? Is is a software problem with the hard? Please advice. My iMac is 21.5 with 2,7Mhz processor, 8 Gb memory and Intel Iris chipset.

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

Those issues are symptoms of a defective hard drive. A good hard drive does not stop responding and does not show the question mark (this means that your iMac has not found any operating system). Note that Disk Utility may not detect that issue and that this is not a software issue.

What I recommend you to do is to make a backup and take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller to ask for a new hard disk. It is the best thing you can do, because you will get a new hard disk free of charge and because your computer is in warranty: if you wait, you may have to pay for the repair, and Late 2013 iMacs and later are difficult to get repaired.
