Evernote: How to remove it completely?

Hey all, I need to remove Evernote from my Mac and re-install it because Evernote isn't working so well.

How can I completely remove Evernote? I saw someone recommend 'AppDelete' and another app, but how can I trust these apps? Is there an app I could download from the MacApp Store?

From the context of your questions I surmise you want to know not just how to delete the Evernote app from your Mac, but also how to delete all your information from Evernote's records. Assuming that is correct, first log in to your Evernote account and erase all your notes. Then, delete the Evernote app according to Apple's instructions for uninstalling apps.

Although you can deactivate an Evernote account, I don't believe there is a way to permanently delete an account without intervention from their customer support. Merely erasing all your notes from Evernote should accomplish what you seek though.

I saw someone recommend 'AppDelete' and another app, but how can I trust these apps?

You don't. They are unreliable in general. None of them are necessary, and some of them (not App Store programs though) are harmful and will corrupt your Mac.

OS X Yosemite: Install, update, and uninstall apps

I'm not sure I understand what it is you intend to accomplish. Earlier, you wrote "I don't want to completely erase Evernote. I just want to remove it completely so I can re-install it again" which contradicts this latest question. Following the above instructions will completely erase Evernote from your Mac.

The reason your notes reappeared after uninstalling Evernote and subsequently reinstalling it again is that your Evernote notes are stored on Evernote's servers. They will remain there until you erase them from Evernote's servers, or Evernote deletes your account. I have no idea if they will do that so all you can do is contact them and ask.

If you don't like Evernote, Apple's Notes is a perfectly suitable equivalent, and it's free.

As well as removing the actual program try also trashing these:

(user)/Library/Preferences/ all files beginning with com.evernote

(user)/Library/CoreData/com.evernote.Evernote (folder)

(Apple have hidden the user’s Library folder in Lion and above to casual viewers, in an attempt to stop new Mac users messing their machines up. To access it, in the Finder go to the ‘Go’ menu and hold down the Option (Alt) key; the Library folder will appear as a choice. In Mavericks you can make it permanently visible - open your Home Folder the from the Finder's View menu, choose show View Options and check Show User Library.)

The first link in my post above should be removed as it's the preferences and settings. The second link is the locally cached copy of your notes, so removing it will result in a new installation downloading the notes from the server from scratch (if you delete them I should keep a copy - or in fact just move them somewhere else, just to be on the safe side).

Doing all this should give you a clean reinstall without losing any data. If it's still messing up you'll have to take it up with Evernote support.

Thanks! I did what you said and I dragged the Evernote.app file from the 'Applications' folder to the Trash.

To re-install Evernote I installed it straight from the MacApp Store and now when I open Evernote I'm already logged in and my Evernote notes are already there... It's like it wasn't deleted at all.

This is really frustrating... What else can I try?

The method I described should have resulted in total removal of the program. Probably the password was still in your Keychain, so when you opened the program it auto logged in. As to the contents, I don't know why you didn't have the cached versions where I said - I can only go by what I see on my Mavericks Mac. In any case I would expect the notes to repopulate from the server when you log in, though this would take a little time. The real question is, is it now working properly? If it isn't, then as I said you should contact Evernote Support.

Thanks for your replies!

I want to completely erase Evernote so that I don't have the same problem when I re-install Evernote.

I just sent the Evernote app to the Trash and I emptied the Trash and rebooted my Mac. Evernote no longer appears in the Dock or in the Applications Folder.

Edit:

What's the best way to re-install Evernote now so that I don't have the same problem re-appearing?

Thanks!
