Check Settings>Phone>My Number to confirm that the correct number appears there. Assuming it does, then go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive to see if the correct number appears there. If it doesn't, go to Settings>Messages, turn off iMessage, then after a few seconds turn it back on. After iMessage reactivates, go back to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and confirm that the correct number appears there now.
The thing is that under Settings>Phone>My Number the old phone number is listed
Tap the number shown, then in the window that opens enter the correct number and tap Save.
