Q: idvd is missing and i cannot make dvd's on iMovie anymore

I am very angry because I have devoted 6 months of my time editing a film on iMovie and I cannot burn it to disc because iDvd is not on my new iMac.

Apple should put iDvd back on the Mac or create something new or else filmmakers will not be using their programs to edit their films since there is no way to export them on disc. I'm very very disappointed in iMovie and Apple right now because I have bought myself a Mac FOR THE PURPOSE OF EDITING MOVIES and i will not be able to burn my films on disc to watch on TV.

I will have to move all my filmmaking projects to my Windows laptop even though I just bought a Mac.

I really hope Apple fixes this.

    Did you also notice that there's no optical drive on your new iMac with which to burn CDs or DVDs?

     

    If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you can obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.

     

    Why iLife 09 instead of 11?

     

    If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.

     

    Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:

    You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
