Q: Does iPad Air 2 surf the web like a cell phone or like a desktop?

I need to use my iPad for completing online assignments in my graduate course work. Will the iPad surf the web like a desktop? The formatting on a cell phone is unacceptable.

iPad Air, iOS 8.1.1

most webs will look like as on desktop.

but some web detecting the User Browser Agent may set the look as a mobile phone.

you can download Google Chrome from App Store, it has a request for desktop version option.

but it's better to find an iPad and try for yourself.

There are some web sites that incorporate technologies not supported by ios: activex, flash, and Java. All three have security issues. These can be classified as legacy tech and should be fading.  Some of these limitation can be gotten around by using the puffin web browser.  Best to try the ipad in a store with the site and see if it works.

You may be better off with the MacBook air.  The ipad leans more to a document viewing device.
