Dock not auto-popping up

Hi,

As of an hour ago, my Dock (located at the bottom of the screen) does not pop up automatically when I scroll the cursor down to the bottom of the screen. I need to click on it. The happens no matter where I place the Dock. The auto hide and show dock option is definitely selected. I've noticed some complaints online about Mavericks and the Dock, however I've had Mavericks installed for at least 4 months and this is the first issue I've had with the Dock. Could this be a virus?

How do I get this to work the way it's supposed to?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Try restarting the computer.

If that doesn’t help, try restarting the Dock.

Restarting the Dock

Applications > Utilities > Terminal

Launch Terminal.

Wait until the $ sign shows up.

Enter the command killall Dock

Press the enter key on the keyboard. Wait until the prompt shows up.

Quit Terminal.

Thanks dominic23. Restarting my mac did work! Before posting here I did try rebooting my mac, and it worked for 30s, then started doing the same thing. I tried again after your post and the fix stuck this time. I will keep your other Dock fix in my back pocket just in case.
