44GB of Backups?

My Macbook Pro shows that there are 44GB of backups stored locally for some reason. I do not use my macbook pro for syncing or backing up iOS devices, so I'm confused as to why it claims that such a large number of backups exist in this device. I've included a screen shot below.

Don't rely on that display. Select the disk's Desktop icon. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. Disk data are displayed in the top panel: Capacity, Used, and Available.


What is shown as Backups in your display may simply be Time Machine snapshots: About Time Machine local snapshots.
