Apple Charger Hot-tip no Connection

Recently, I noticed my iPhone charger suddenly stop working. It is a normal apple brand wire that does have the occasional bent tip at the top underneath the port. This has happened to me before but now, when I plug it in, the top heats up past the bent part where the pin you put into the port is located. This might sound confusing so I'll say it like this. It heats up at the end of the charger past the bent mark. This indicates for me that the charging feed is being sent through. I thought this was my iPhone so i tried it on my iPad but the same thing happened. Also, the tip only is hot when plugged in to a device and it is almost instantaneous. If anyone knows why this is happening and if I can fix it than please tell me. Thanks!
