Dec 11, 2014 12:47 AM in response to Frank Caggianoby tacitus99,★HelpfulThanks Frank, I thought it must do but just wanted to check. It looks as though the problem lies elsewhere. The cable is a good quality one from Lindy so that leaves the TV itself. It's a Panasonic and is 5yrs old which I would have thought supported HDCP, but perhaps not.
Probably best to check with the manufacturers and see if there's a firmware update.

Dec 11, 2014 8:42 AM in response to tacitus99by Frank Caggiano,If the TV has HDMI inputs it in all likelihood supports HDCP.
If you could describe the exact error message you are getting and what bit of equipment is reporting the error it might help resolve the problem

Dec 11, 2014 10:16 AM in response to tacitus99by jlgtx,Go to eBay or Amazon, look for a "ViewHD HDMI Splitter v1.3b" and buy one. Put it between your Apple device and whatever display you want to use. The splitter handles all the HDCP to your Apple device, and supports non-HDCP displays.

Dec 12, 2014 12:05 AM in response to Frank Caggianoby tacitus99,I thought that was the case. The error msg appeared on the TV and told me there was a faulty connection and to unplug/plugin the cable, which I did only to get the same error msg. The obvious thing was a faulty cable so I tried another - another one from Lindy, but this time from their "Premium" range. Same problem and error msg.
Normally I play content via the TV using "Beamer" a small app from http://beamer-app.com that allows you to stream mp4/m4v video via Airplay. Never had a problem in the past and according to the Devs, it should play HDCP content. In case it was this app causing the problem, I reset the Apple TV, imported the mp4 to iTunes and tried streaming to the TV via iTunes. Bingo! It played perfectly.
Just in case I tried again, this time streaming via Beamer. Again no problem. Go figure....
Whether it was the Apple TV reset that altered something I have no idea, but so far everything seems OK. Hopefully that will continue, but I'd love to know what caused the problem in the first place.
For the record, I'm in the UK and the video was one from the BBC, downloaded via iPlayer - Prof Jim Khalili explaining Quantum Physics. Fascinating stuff and if it ever appears on PBS in the USA I highly recommend it.
Thanks for the all the help.

Dec 12, 2014 6:06 AM in response to tacitus99by Frank Caggiano,Glad you got it sorted out.
Sure sounds like the reset got it working again. As for what caused it, who knows, turning it off and on again is a troubleshooting technique as old as computers. It works a surprising number of times
