HI ive just bought my nine year old son an iPhone 4s and would like to know what parental controls I could or should put on his phone, he doesn't live with me but I don't want him looking at anything he shouldn't or running up high bills etc. Thanks.

There are some content controls as part of iOS, however any running up of a high bill, you would have to talk to the carrier about limits there, as the iPhone does not have any settings for restricting the phone or data during selected times.

This talks about restrictions in iTunes. Use Parental Controls in iTunes to set content restrictions - Apple Support
Then you can take a look in the App Store for some other apps, mostly restrictive browsers to help filter content. They are not, nor is restrictions all inclusive. It will not prevent everything.
You are right that pay as you go with control some spending, it depends on how it reloads. Make sure it isn't automatic so that if he goes over, it automatically reloads. Again, most carriers have some type of restrictions a parent can put on an account, but I'm not sure if they are all available in pay as you go accounts.
HI can someone help with an icloud issue? As stated earlier I've bought my 9 year old son an iPhone 4s, I will have to set up icloud so he can get apps, he doesn't live with me, I basically want to set this up so that he cannot buy apps, only put free ones on suitable for his sge, also I dont really want to have to do it using my iCloud account, I'd rather he didn't have that information and I wouldn't want anything on my iPhone or iPad linked to his iPhone, what should I do?
