Why can't I clear a badged message even though I have no unread texts/iMessages

I understand that you have no unread messages in your Messages application but still see a badge that indicates you do. In this situation, there may be a couple of different troubleshooting steps that I would suggest.

First I would suggest to completely quit the Messages application. The first attached article has information on how to complete this process.

After Messages has closed, I would recommend resetting your iPhone using the instructions in the following article.
