Is my Mac refurbished ?

I am considering buying a Macbook Pro13" Retina 2013 Late (8gb,256) - its warranty expires in mid-2015 - the current owner is willing to verify this. It has had 2 previous owners in total. How can I find out if this was a refurbished unit - which would reduce its potential value to me considerably. I do not presently have its serial number, but can access it at the "time of sale" should it occur. Also, I am not acquainted with the current owner. I have been assured the A/Care warranty remains valid.

Thanks for any pointers on dealing with refurb indicators!

Ask the seller for the serial number and call Apple to check on its status. The seller should have no issue with this if there are no problems with the MacBook.

If you can get the serial number of the MBP, enter it here:

https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do

This will show you the warranty status.

I know of no way to determine if a MBP has been sold as a refurbished unit. I personally do not consider that a problem since I have purchased three MBPs that way. All three looked the same as a new one and have performed well.

So when you get the serial number run it here:

http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html

So I have a refurbished iMac and ran it there. It comes back: "Factory: DC (Assembled or Refurbished in Ireland)"

Also running the serial number at the Apple Store will give you all the owners and number of Apple contacts that machine has had. Apple might not tell you all the former but I've had the latter laid out for me.

I have no problem with a refurbished machine and as "kappy" says they are even more critically inspected than a new build.

I would not consider that a reliable source for refurbished information. Running my refurbished MBP serial numbers show no indication if it was sold as new or refurbished.
