Q: Can't download/install apps from Mac App Store

When I click "Get" and "Install App," nothing happens after that, no prompt for the Apple ID password appears. I have downloaded apps before with no problem. I have already tried clearing the App Store cache, cookies, and preference files, and resetting the PRAM, with no success.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I'm having the same problem -- going to the Mac App Store gives me a gray page, shows 2 pending updates but nothing happens no matter what I do.  Will Apple "fix" this without charge if I go into the Apple Store?

From the multitude of SnowLeopard users with the same problem, I think the problem is with the current App Store, not a particular computer. For those of us planning to upgrade to Yosemite, the question is will Apple copy the upgrade onto a DVR at an Apple Store?

I think that the major issue here is NOT the willingness of the few that can upgrade to Yosemite (while still on 10.6.8 for any reason) but the troubles that are facing (and will face) all of the people stacked with SnLeo, simply because they have no choice (i.e. hardware constrain).

I really hope that Apple will NOT leave us (likely long time Apple users) alone.

I have almost the same question--I did download Yosemite and the zillion upgrades earlier this year.  I "thought" everything was working afterwards...and now I find that I cannot access the MacApp Store even though it lists 2 upgrades pending.  Also what do you make of the firmware update to Intel based MacBook Pro laptops--do we try to install it or no?

Me too. I'm on 10.6.8. App Store won't let me install or update anything. If I click "UPDATE" or "INSTALL APP" on any app absolutely nothing happens.

I've tried rebooting, uninstalling and reinstalling App Store, deleting all sorts of cache, preference, and plist files, nothing.

I looked at the Console. When opening App Store the console fills with a whole slew of messages like the following:

    Dec 14 20:45:25 MyMac-6 App Store[1436]: CGBitmapContextGetBitsPerComponent: invalid context 0x100673f90

    Dec 14 20:45:25 MyMac-6 [0x0-0x44044].com.apple.appstore[1436]: Sun Dec 14 20:45:25 MyMac-6.local App Store[1436] <Error>: CGBitmapContextGetBitsPerComponent: invalid context 0x100673f90

    Dec 14 20:45:25 MyMac-6 [0x0-0x44044].com.apple.appstore[1436]: This isn't a bitmap context. Forcing destination format to ARGB_8 for CGContext.

Then every time I try to update or install an app, I get this single message in the Console:

    Dec 14 20:47:40 MyMac-6 App Store[1436]: ERROR: ITSExceptionHandler: {message:"TypeError: 'undefined' is not a function", url:"unknown (might be html-embedded script?)", lineNumber:"unknown"}

    Nothing else happens.

I'm relieved that I'm not the only one with this problem, but it's still majorly frustrating.

Read the whole thread and you find this on page 2

I spoke to Apple support and they know about the snow leopard to yosemite app store issue, it's on their end. They said they'd fix it within a couple of days and said wait for an update.

    BEWARE of unwanted charges.

I discovered yesterday night that some of the operation I did on friday when trying to access the Applestore (read reinserting the credit card number as suggested and/or trying to download a free app) have been indeed charged three times (3 x 1.98 euro).

On top of this charge in triplicate, none of these attempt have been successful because, as all of us know now, the full access to the Apple store is not possible for any Snow Leopard user.

I already issued a complain to Apple demanding for the full cancellation of these undue payments.

    Still waiting

    Same here!

I thought I was doing something wrong... I'm using OSX 10.6.8 on Mac Book Pro 2009 and can´t get yosemite or any other app...

I hope Apple can solve whatever is wrong quickly...

I'M having the same exact problem After trying to upgrade to Yosemite since yesterday. It turns out, I can't download ANY apps, not just Yosemite. I'm also on 10.6.8. So this is how Apple treats it's long time users on their older OS. Snow Leopard was the best OS Apple ever made. It's too bad they're tearing it down.

    Here is a fix,

Find an apple store or "official apple repair center" and they will have the newer os versions on a flash drive.

Have them install the new os and your good to go!

Luckily I had a friend who just downloaded it and he moved it to a flash drive and the install went smooth as melted butter on toast.

Obviously this was not an intentional slight.  Show some seasonal good will.  I anticipate Apple will address the problem.
