OS X Mavericks: Burn a CD or DVD
If you're familiar with macs in the past, the process should not differ much from an internal disk drive.

Dec 11, 2014 4:42 PM in response to schaafsmasterby susanrob2,The superdrive does not show up in the finder when I plug it in to the computer, and the drive accepts a disk but after a few seconds the disk is rejected.

Dec 12, 2014 12:01 PM in response to susanrob2by schaafsmaster,The superdrive itself won't show up in the Finder, only a disk when inserted.
Try this to double check:
Apple Menu (upper left corner of screen) -> About this Mac -> More Info -> System Report
Then look for the USB option in the left column. This is a way to double check that the computer actually detects the USB superdrive.
Otherwise, I assume you've tried multiple disks, both CD and DVD. If its kicking them all out, then I think you have a defective superdrive. If its less than a year old its under warranty, so I'd return it for a new one.

Dec 12, 2014 2:35 PM in response to schaafsmasterby susanrob2,Tried all this, but it still doesn't work, and doesn't show up in the finder when I insert a disk. It's brand new, so I guess I'll have to return it.
Thanks for your help
