Dec 12, 2014 5:43 AM in response to tagoby Loner T,★HelpfulSL 10.6.8 does not have support software for W7/8. the XP installation is self-contained and as long as Mac Bootmanager can recognize the NTFS partition and Windows Bootmanager (NTLDR/...) it will continue to work.
Option 1.
I suggest a full backup of XP and OSX. Upgrade OSX to Yosemite/BC 5, and then upgrade XP to 7/8. You need to ensure you can get to Yosemite first usign Yosemite system requirements.
Option 2.
Just upgrade the XP to W7/8, but download BC 5.x drivers compatible with your HW on a USB stick first.

Dec 18, 2014 6:14 AM in response to tagoby tago,Tomorrow I'll try with option 2. I need to do whatever looks faster since I need to install the thing on 15 iMacs.
What I'll try is
1) Insert the Win 7 installation DVD under Windows XP and install Win 7
2) Download Bootcamp 4.x divers and install them under Win 7
Does this sound right ? Can this be done without running through Bootcamp Assistant in Mac OS X ?

Dec 18, 2014 8:39 AM in response to tagoby Loner T,★HelpfulThe Win7 drivers can be downloaded by following the link for your specific year/model Mac at Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems - Apple Support. Once Win 7 upgrade is complete, install the drivers which you download from this link.

I just went through what you did about a month ago. It was a little more painful in that I also had to make my Windows partition a little larger. So I had to install a new hard drive.
I used win clone to backup as well as all the standard Windows stuff to double assure I had everything.
Since we are on 10.6.8 the BCA is basically frozen. If you use that for current drivers it will go to the net, time out and say it can't find them.
Tell me what you used from the available drivers as I am still having basic problems with Win7 right now.
Thanks,
Gordon

Have you tried Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems - Apple Support and downloading the version valid for your specific Mac.

Yes but that really doesn't help me. I created the BC with v2 and v4 scripting does not handle the stuff in v2 and errors out. I tried v3.1 and of course it requires v3 which is not downloadable from what I can tell.
I started a new thread on this. As my problem is that ESET is now BSOD on their device driver and they are telling me to make sure my device drivers are all up to date. I do this pretty regularly since I am a hardware/software engineer. But it's a bit frustrating with security software that craps out.
Boot camp v2 to v4 driver upgrade? Win7 Ult 32
Thanks,
Gordon

Dec 19, 2014 5:14 AM in response to Loner Tby tago,Well, right now I installed Win 7 on 4 of my 15 iMacs but I HAD TO USE BCA since Windows XP popped up an error about not being able to write a folder on the HD. So basically I simply removed the Windows partition, recreated it, installed Windows and then BC 4.x drivers.
I was trying to install on the 5th computer but it looks like the CD/DVD drive does no longer work :-(. How can I install without it ???

Dec 19, 2014 5:21 AM in response to tagoby Loner T,What is the error message and which folder is not writeable? Is the W7 installation being done with administrative rights to XP?
A commercial option is to use Winclone, and use one of the iMacs which already has Win 7 as the source of the Winclone backup over the network, and restore it to the iMac with non-functional Optical drive. It will also help in creating a standard Win 7 image that can be restored to many iMacs.

Dec 19, 2014 5:35 AM in response to Loner Tby tago,I don't remember the error, I'm at home now, but it was not really explicative. It simply sid something like "error:xxxxxxx can't write folder on hd". It was done with administrative rights. An other free solution to the dvd problem ? Usb ? External drive ? External dvd drive ?

Winclone is great, just remember to do a chkdsk before making a image. Select the drive in the window->get properties->tools Error Checking.
It takes a while but worth it. You can then install the image on any machine regardless of the CD/DVD drive working.
Thanks,
