Macbook pro retina 15 Mid 2014 - Virtualization bug

For some reason Virtualization is disabled when i boot directly up in Windows 8.1, however if i first start up OSX to the login screen and then select restart and boot into Windows i have Virtualization enabled as expected.

My temporary work-a-round which is terrible annoying:

  • bootup via ALT and select Ios
  • at login screen press restart
  • hold down ALT and select Windows

This enables virtualization, however it would be "nice" to be able to just boot directly into windows.

Can you post the output of sudo bless --verbose --info ? It may not work correctly on Yosemite though. My test fails.

sudo bless --verbose --info --plist

EFI found at IODeviceTree:/efi

Current EFI boot device string is: '<array><dict><key>MemoryType</key><integer size="64">0xb</integer><key>StartingAddress</key><integer size="64">0xff990000</integer><key>IOEFIDevicePathType</key><string>HardwareMem oryMapped</string><key>EndingAddress</key><integer size="64">0xffb2ffff</integer></dict><dict><key>IOEFIDevicePathType</key><strin g>MediaFirmwareVolumeFilePath</string><key>Guid</key><string>2B0585EB-D8B8-49A9- 8B8C-E21B01AEF2B7</string></dict><dict><key>IOEFIBootOption</key><string>HD</str ing></dict></array>'

Boot option is 8BE4DF61-93CA-11D2-AA0D-00E098032B8C:Boot0080

Processing boot option ''

Boot device path incorrect

Boot option does not match XML representation

XML representation doesn't match true boot preference

The Bootcamp volume on /dev/disk0s4 has the correct settings.

Legacy boot device detected

mount: /Volumes/BOOTCAMP

Mount point for /Volumes/BOOTCAMP is /Volumes/BOOTCAMP

Do you get any error messages in Windows Events?

Yes,

Hypervisor launch failed; Either VMX not present or not enabled in BIOS.

Can you reboot? It is possible, there is a firmware bug on Mid 2014 in the CSM-BIOS layer. I do not have a machine to test with.

One other option is to reset SMC and PRAM - Startup key combinations for Intel-based Macs - Apple Support and do the bless again, reboot, and test.

DId not work, triede several restart's and power downs
