Sorry I wasn't clear.  They appear as png when I retrieve them from iCloud.

I don't seem to be able to take them directly from the iPhone itself anymore.

    Thank you for replying.

I've never seen this behavior before Sherri, though truth be told I don't use iCloud photo syncing anymore. What happens when you try to connect the phone directly to your computer? If you have a password on it you have to unlock the phone in order for the computer (PC or Mac) to see and download the images.

What are you using to retrieve them with (what browser and what operating system)?

I just ran a test downloading using Chrome on windows 7. I get JPGs. Are you saving by right clicking, or using the download button (top menu)? right-click will result in a png (and only a large thumbnail, to boot).

    Here is more complete info.

iPhone 6, Windows 7, Firefox or Chrome browsers.

When I plug the phone into the computer using the usb cable, the menu that used to appear, where I could open and drag the photos to a folder on the PC, no longer appears. When I plug the phone in, iTunes opens, but I shut it down as usual and wait for the menu to appear where I can open and see my photos, and nothing happens at all.  When I look in My Computer, I do not see the device.  At that point, I went to iCloud, as it was my only option, and the photos are in PNG format, which is tiny.

I don't understand about the browser.

When using iCloud to download them, you are going through the wrong procedure. That PNG file you are downloading is just the thumb nail. Open the image in the browser, then look to the menu at the top. you will see an icon that looks like a cloud with a downward pointing arrow. Click that to download the image.

Syncing with Windows I can't help you with. I don't directly sync my iOS devices.

Hooray!  I just plugged the phone into the computer again, and the box appeared that would allow me to look at the photos.  Don’t know why it wouldn’t work before.  I appreciate and am grateful for your help.

    Thank you, Sherri

Regular photos are JPG and screenshots (when you press power and home button together) are PNG.
