Q: ? Virus

I have a mac 10x (refurbished). Recently I have been getting a screen from bluegratic.info asking me to call 1-877-535-0106 because my computer is infected with a virus. The only way to get this off my screen is to force quit safari . A part of this address is Trojan.Fakeav-Download.Help?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Restart Safari while holding the Shift key. Also check the Apple article below.

This is not a virus or anything else that is installed on your computer, it's just a scam pop-up being displayed by a bad website. See:

If you called the phone number and followed any of the instructions they gave you, please let us know exactly what those instructions were and what you did. If you gave them your credit card number or allowed them to have remote access to your computer, that's very bad, and you'll need to take additional measures.

Thanks for the replies: I did force quit safari and then held down the shift key to restart the computer. This did fix the problem for about 10 minutes and then it came back again....I  just shut the computer down cause I am so frustrated with this but I will try again and hopefully this will fix the issue. No, I did not call the number.

That's probably a result of some page that you are visiting frequently. Take note of the page you're on when this appears, and then avoid that page in the future. If that page is a legit site, you should consider alerting the site owner to the problem, as it may have been hacked.

If the problem keeps happening regardless of what site you're on, you may have something more going on. One possibility would be adware, in which case my Adware Removal Guide should help.
