It would block usage of all the startup keys, like C, N, T, D, CMD+s, CMD+Option+p+r, CMD +v, Option boot will show a lock, and Shift, as well as booting from anything but the Hard Drive.

Dec 16, 2014 9:54 PM in response to BDAquaby LBarbara,Hey, I'm not sure if it was a master pw for Filevault, I don't remember. I set it a few years ago about 2011ish, and I just got the machine back this summer from my ex-girlfriend. It actually may HAVE been for filevault, since I remember not wanting any of them to install any apps, so I set a password. I'll try that link you provided and see what I can do from there? Otherwise I have no idea what to do, is all hope lost??

Dec 21, 2014 3:10 PM in response to BDAquaby LBarbara,So it says there is a Master pw set, but also it says filevault is turned off. Since it indeed is the Master pw I'm assuming there is no hope? Since the CMD+S does not work during start-up, could I possibly access the boot screen? thanks again...

Force Removing Password Protection
1) Add or remove DIMMs to change the total amount of RAM in the computer.
2) Then, the PRAM must be reset 3 times. (Command + Option + P + R).

Dec 23, 2014 11:20 AM in response to BDAquaby LBarbara,Good news, IT WORKED! Reduced the RAM, created a new Admin to change the old PW, and I was good. Now I can proceed with all these long overdue updates and installs, and get to keep all of my apps and data! I was starting to think all hope was lost. Thanks for all of your help, I really appreciate it.
