what is the viewable image area/screen size (length x width) on the 2014 21.5" and 27" imacs? i have an older 24" and am trying to determine if i need to go up or if 21.5" will be adequate. Thanks!

Ttake about an inch off for the lack border from each side and youll have an approximate.
thanks mike -- is this the width of the mac or just the screen? i am looking for screen measurement vs overall body measurement.
Those are the dimensions of the iMac, not the screen.
21.5" & 27" is the viewable area, I would recommend you drop by an Apple Store or a reseller and spend some time with each size and then determine which best suits your needs. Please remember the 21.5" models do not have near the power or RAM expansion abilities as a 27" model, however you need to decide if that is important to you based on your needs.
i called apple.
the 21.5" screen area is 18.7" w X 10.5" high.
the 27" is 23" wide by 13" high.
in case it's useful for anyone else to know.

just to be clear, width of viewable screen and height (i said length x width which are the same thing -- i meant width and height).
The diagonal is the standard measurement for screen size. I can't find any reference to other measurements. Go to an Apple tore, take a tape measure with you.
if someone is sitting in front of a 21.5" or 27" imac and has a tape measure, would you be kind enough to measure your viewable screen area? 🙂 thanks!!!
