Cannot add cards back to apple pay after restoring.

I had all my cards on apple pay until yesterday. But yesterday I thought to restore my phone as new and since after doing that I can't add any cards back to the apple pay. When I enter all the information, It says verifying and then displays a message that says "Card could not be added. Please try again later or contact the card issuer for more information."

Sadly my Scotiabank Amex (Canada) is not working with that particular fix. I would give my provider the benefit of the doubt however in this case the rejection process seems to be happening at the very last moment when it *should* take. (After the terms and conditions are agreed to). All other compatible banking products work just fine. I just tried your method a third time and it just will not work. Fortunately I don't take these things too much to heart and am patient with new technologies :) thank you just the same. Your efforts are very much appreciated!

I have the same exact problem on my new iphone 8S. I restored from a previous iphone and my credit card was gone even though I used encrypted restore. I tried to add it back and it says contact the card issuer but never lets me actually say what card I am trying to add. I then turned off the passcode and turned in back on when Wallet complained and now the message says APPLE PAY is not available right now. Really?

I have studied this issue intensely on my own, within the forum and also with senior Apple tech staff who walked me through the steps in a virtual screen- and on and on.

I have come to the conclusion that in my case at least (I would not go as far as to assume we all have the same issues) that this is not a programming error on the part of iOS. (Remember I said in my case). My Scotia Amex simply will not add no matter what I do, even though it seemingly goes through all the steps and almost catches, the final pop up refuses the card and asks for me to contact the bank. Absolutely every other supported card I have (across 3 unique banks) can be easily removed and re added without any issues whatsoever. However remove the Amex, and try adding it and that's where the issues start at the authorization point. (Even the user agreement works). So when one person is deligted that "Apple fixed it" it may in fact be the banking end that is having issues and "fixed it".

This is an educated guess on my part naturally. My final test was to remove it from the last device, my new iPad Pro. Just like ever other device, once removed the issue manifested itself again. without question an iOS bug could, in theory do this as well, however according to the senior tech I spoke with at Apple said it should not do this, and implied it is a known issue on the banking end but he did not say that verbatim but it felt like that was the gist of his explanation. It makes sense really but it is hard to prove as a consumer. After talking to Scotia, umm. Let's just say it was a waisted effort but at least they are aware of it. One can only hope it will be corrected sooner than later. The more people I see with good news to report the happier I get!

I tried a lot of things on this thread. Logging in and out of icloud (to fix a repeating login request issue) caused the initial problem, but logging in and out (a second time) fixed it.

However, in the interim, I tried all the things on here, including turning passcode off, disabling family sharing, re-entering my credit card in my icloud account and turning off turning on.

It seemed like it was logging out of icloud and back in that fixed it. It didn't ask for me to scan/enter my card the second time, just enter the CVV.

Good luck.

I fouund a solution which worked for me after two weeks of calling Apple, my card provider numerouse times and searching the internet. I did some searching on this board and tried this proccess I saw on here today and it worked.

I did the following:

1. Went to settings

2. Touch ID and passcode

3. Turned off passcode

4. Deleted my fingerprint

5. Powered the phone off and then back on

6.Went to settings

7.Touch ID and passcode

8. set up passcode (you can use the same one as before)

9. Set up fingerprint

10.added card through wallet and it worked

hope this helps you as it sounds like you have the same problem as I did.

Thanks! That finally did the trick! It took me about 5 min to unpaid and then 20 min to restore from the backup. Added the cards right after I unpaired. Took about 5-10 min to activate but I can't wait to use my yApple Pay again. I asked countless people in the Apple store and unfortunately everyone's answer is to reset the phone. So basically if you have a leaky faucet just change out the whole sink....I wish I saw your post earlier but never the less that worked for me!🙂

I had a Wells Fargo Visa Debit card that I could not load after I restored my iPhone 7 plus from a backup. I called Apple and they said it was Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo said it was Apple. I called Apple back and they then said to contact Visa. You can't contact Visa about Apple Pay issues!

So I then set about trying one thing after another. I got a new Visa debit card with the same card number but with a different expiration date and security code. It didn't work. I then got a new Visa debit card with a new card number. It didn't work. I upgraded to 10.3.1. It didn't work. I restored from my backup again after upgrading to 10.3.1. It didn't work. I hit upon trying to the idea of trying to "Set Up as New iPhone" while searching the internet. In the Apple Support page that guides you through this process it mentions selecting this option in the "Apps and Data" screen. However to get to that screen you have to go to "Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings" in your iPhone. After doing this, I was able to, at last, reload my Wells Fargo Visa Debit card. I then unloaded it thinking that this would reset the "Wallet" to accept the card again after I reloaded from my backup again. It didn't work. So I tried to do the same thing again but this time leave the card loaded in the "Wallet" and reload my backup. It didn't work.

Finally, I thought about why I could reload my card after I reset my iPhone by erasing all content and settings. It dawned on me that the "Wallet" settings are some how corrupted when you restore from a backup. So I decided to try and "Reset All Settings" instead of "Erase All Content and Settings." Low and behold it worked! Granted, I had to go back through and reenter my settings but all of my "Content" was exactly as I had had it previously. This included the screen layout, Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, Notes, Music, Messages, Mail, everything that was really important and I now can once again use Apple Pay!

It would be nice if Apple would add a "Reset Wallet" option so that you wouldn't loose your other settings but I'll take the later rather than replacing my iPhone or switching banks!

I am having this problem too. Actually it's my wife's phone but it's my problem:) She has a 6s and have been using Apple Pay since it was available and have had no problems.

The last iOS update broke it. While my phone updated and had no issues hers updated and the cards that were in Apple Pay are gone.

When I go to renter then it just says could not add card There are only a debit and credit card and they worked fine until recently.

I've tried disabling passcode and then turning it back on. Also tried reset settings and no luck.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas or I'm I just going to have to wait for a new update?

Thanks

Yep, I have the same problem with my 6s Plus. Incredibly frustrating as I am unable to use apple pay on my phone or my Apple Watch. Took it to the Apple store and went through the whole rigamarole of signing out, erasing, restoring, hooking to iTunes, wiping, restoring, signing out, removing touch ID blah blah blah. After an hour and a half I had to leave to pick my daughter up.

Clearly Apple knows what the issue really is and aren't telling people because this is major issue. I don't believe it's a problem with my iCloud account either because oddly I AM able to add cards to my iPad. But who the heck is bringing their iPad into stores?

Kind of getting sick of all the issues with my various apple devices. I own a Macbook Pro, Mac Pro (Work), iPad, iPhone and Apple Watch .You'd think Apple would care about supporting their loyal customers, apprently not.

Genius. Thank you!

Nobody could help me. Not visa. Not apple. Frustrating. The suggestions here well meaning bit not right. You. Red to be logged into apple Id a D you need a password set up to access wallet so those ideas were dumb.

Tried what you said and it makes total sense that the two parts of the apps were not talking to each other. It worked like a charm. Thank you thank you thanl you.
