how much space do preloaded apps take?

I am deciding which size ipad to purchase, and that all depends on how much space the preloaded apps take up! I currently have the 16g mini and with the IOS 8 update they added a couple new apps that are taking up to much of my limited space! So does anyone know how much space the preloaded apps take up out of box?

iPad Air, iOS 8.1.2

LOL

Yeah. Like the expression on folks faces when they realize the 3 inch floppies had a whopping 1.44 megs on them..I used to carry around a few with my files on them. I think somewhere I still have a 32 meg flash drive - the first I ever bought, and I know i have some 128 meg ones.

now the most common size is 4 gig and I have flash drives that have more space on them than the entire drive of my first computer.

1.44 MB? LOL... the early ones were 720K. The original Mac managed to squeeze 800K onto them as the formatting was more efficient.

My first hard drive was 5 MB. I remember my first 20 MB drive. It was awesome! I was able to install and run the IBM COBOL compiler for the PC without having to swap 4 or 5 different floppies into the second drive on my PC every time I wanted to recompile and test something!

I gave up my 128K Apple-II and bought a "Fat Mac," named because it had a whopping 512K of RAM. The hard drive was not official Apple but, rather, installed at the store (can't remember what store). I think that it had 10 meg.

Do you remember "fat bits?"

I remember a computer mag trashing Apple because of the "ridiculous" 128K RAM in the Apple-II. At the time, the Radio Shack Trash-80 had only 32K or 64K. The magazine alleged that the reason for 128K was to support the bloated Appleworks WP.

Exactly. Thank you Skydiver.

bobseufertThis has been an issue since the early days of personal computing. I clearly recall screaming and gnashing of teeth about the advertised and actual capacity of floppy disks. There was less noise when hard drives started to become common, partially because 5, 10, or 20 MB (yes MB) was so huge that people thought they would never be able to use that much space. Then Windows came along... and digital cameras, and games with actual graphics...

Ahhh. those were the days.
