Q: Why can't I use iTunes credit to make purchased when I have family sharing on?

So I have heaps of iTunes credit, trying to buy a song, and because I am the organiser of a family sharing account, I have to make my purchased on a credit card? Am I missing something here, I have credit but can't even use it for myself?
