Safari will not load the home page when I open it. It defaults to last open window. I set preferences to go to home page but Safari decides otherwise.

I have just tried that and when I started the mac up the last window viewed was displayed. . . not my home page.

I closed all Safari windows except the one displayed; I then quit Safari and then shut down the computer.

When I restarted the computer, the previous window was displayed.

Apologies. I closed all windows. Quit safari. Shut down computer. Restarted computer. Desktop image was displayed with Safari banner displayed (File, Edit, View etc). Clicked on Safari in the Dock and Favourites were displayed.

In Safari preferences I have OPEN NEW WINDOW and OPEN NEW TAB set to Homepage.

I have already done that. BTW my General Page in Safari Preferences is different to yours. I have changed OPEN NEW TABS from Homepage to Empty Page.

Restarted computer. Safari has loaded but is not displayed. Finder banner is displayed on Desktop Display image.

There is a dot under Safari in the Dock. Clicked on Safari in Dock and Favourites are displayed.

Turned Extensions 'Off' - restarted computer - Safari loaded but not displayed. Finder bar displayed with desktop image. Clicked on Safari in Dock (dot under Safari App) home page then displayed.

Thank you all for your input dealing with this problem.

I tried a different browser - Firefox - using the same details for the home page as Safari, and it worked OK. There must be a problem with the Safari software.
