Help removing third party menu bar items in Yosemite

My university had us install McAfee on our computers. Once I upgraded to Yosemite, I could remove the program using App Delete, but the menu bar item is stuck there. I've tried third party apps, and I tried to download McAfee again to use its uninstall feature, but the installer won't open in Yosemite.

Does anyone know a terminal command or other trick for removing a third party app from the menu bar. And, no, holding down command and pulling it off doesn't work.
