Dec 14, 2014 7:15 PM in response to DarkestStarrby ShadowDust99,To stop receiving messages from a certain person, go to Settings>Messages>Blocked>Add New...
Make sure the person you wish to block is added to your contacts. When you want to start receiving messages from them again, go back here, tap Edit then the little circle minus symbol, then tap Unblock then click Done once you have unblocked them.

Dec 14, 2014 8:32 PM in response to ShadowDust99by DarkestStarr, excellent alternative. however, you're not addressing the issue of why this option doesn't work. Or is it actually functional at all?.Why is it there?

Dec 15, 2014 2:17 PM in response to DarkestStarrby ShadowDust99,You will want to head to Settings>Do not disturb and check your preferences there.
I suggest switching your settings to:
Allow calls from>No one
Reapeated Calls (Off)
SIlence: Always
Then turn Do not Disturb on to put your new settings in action. Note that Do Not Disturb will block all notifications when on, and does not support the option to stop notifications from a specific contact, therefore iMessage blocking options would be better for your situation.

Apr 29, 2015 10:11 AM in response to ShadowDust99by weeza2002,I am having the same issue as DarkestStarr on iphone 5c, iOS 8.3. Again, the all or nothing Do Not Disturb moon setting still does not address the issue we've had with text threads. Can you provide an update for that specifically? Please note that I don't want to block a number entirely from contacting, me. I just want to get out of a group message thread that's sending way too many messages that mean nothing to me.
