xCode "temporarily unavailable"

Hey,

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.1. Before I updated to Yosemite, I was getting the same error ("This item is temporarily unavailable. Try again later.") when I tried to update xCode. I was getting frustrated about not being able to update so I just deleted the app and tried to redownload it. Now, I'm still getting the same error so I can't even use xCode. It's not in my applications folder, but when I open launchpad, there is still the spot it was in with a dashed outline and "paused" under it. I've tried some posted solutions (Can't install Xcode 4.4 from Mac App Store) but nothing seems to work. If someone could help me out I would really appreciate it.

In Launchpad, click and hold the paused icon.The icons will start jiggling and a X will appear. Click the X on the paused icon to delete the partial download. Go to the Purchases pane in the Mac App Store and try downloading again.

Dah-veed, you are thinking this is an iPad or iPhone. The jwheeler issue is on a MacBook Pro.

I have the same problem as jwheeler, but for iPhoto during this switch to "Photos" ... cant get rid of PAUSED version in Launchpad.

I am not thinking that at all. I have described the situation on a Mac exactly as Launchpad functions.

Notice that I said click & hold, not tap & hold. You must use a mouse or trackpad to follow my instructions, not a finger.
