iPad 2 & Apple TV 3rd Gen - Airplay not working

I have an iPad 2 and 3rd gen AppleTV. When connecting to the network at my house with the Apple TV and iPad 2, it works flawlessly. I am able to use Airplay and mirror the image onto my TV. Here is the tricky part of the equation... When I bring the Apple TV into my classroom at school, I am not able to have the airplay button display on my iPad 2 when they are both connected to the same network. I have tried following the restarting steps and everything, to no avail. I have read about the problems Apple TV can have on certain networks, especially those found in school classrooms, but here is the kicker... I brought in a coworker's iPad Mini and the Airplay icon popped up right away. I also am able to have the airplay button display on my iPhone 5. What am I missing? What is the big difference from the iPad 2 to the mini and iPhone 5 that allows airplay to work on the network?

To be honest it's not uncommon for someone to report having issues with one device and not with another when it comes to AirPlay, however that's invariably one that has a hiccup every now and again and one that doesn't rather than one that doesn't work 100% of the time and one that does. Things like the size of the antenna on the devices or who made them or what the cases are made of do make a difference.

When the iPad connects to the network, I assume you are able to use it for other things that involve the network/internet.
