where did my screenshots go on my macbook pro?

I just received my brand new macbook pro in the mail today. I have been attempting to figure it out since I am a previous PC user. I figured out how to take a screen shot and one of them popped up on my desktop as I had read. When I took two more later neither of them are anywhere to be found. There are no new files. Please help!

Screen shots always go to the desktop by default, which is the same as going to the Desktop folder in your user home folder. There are various free utilities that will let you change where screen shots get saved, but if you haven't done anything like that, they should not be going to another folder.

Is it possible that you used the screen shot keyboard shortcuts but added the Control key to the shortcut? Because that would not save a screen shot file to the desktop, it would put the screen shot image on the clipboard instead. If this happens, you should be able to paste it into an application.

Have you tried using the Spotlight system-wide search to do a search for "Screen shot" ?

There are two ways to view the desktop. The most obvious is just to look at what is behind everything on the screen , but you risk missing some things that may be behind other windows.

The other way is to look inside the Folder named Desktop (in the Finder Sidebar), which is exactly the same stuff but in File System presentation.

The default for screen shots is to put them on the Desktop, unless you also hold down Shift, in which case they will be placed on the clipboard/pasteboard, ready to Paste.
