Q: iOS 8.1.2 will not bluetooth pair with Yosemite 10.10.1

my iPhone 6 with iOS 8.1.2 will not form a bluetooth pairing with MacBook Air with Yosemite 10.10.1. On my Mac I see the iPhone and pairing code appears, but after I select "pair" on my iPhone it connects for about 1 second then immediately loses connection. If I try to connect again from my phone I get message, "Connection Unsuccessful .... MacBook Pro is not supported".

An iPhone is not designed to pair via Bluetooth to a computer (Mac or Windows) except for personal hotspot and then only if your cellular plan supports it. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-7722

If you are attempting to use Handoff/Continuity, that does involve Bluetooth but the devices are NOT paired; Bluetooth just needs to be on and the devices in range of each other. The following may help with Handoff/Continuity issues: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5458

That is clearly not the answer as it will not act as a personal hotspot either if it won't pair. I have just checked my Lumia with the Macbook Air and that pairs and works as a hotspot also.

The bluetooth on the Phone works because i have tried it with my Kenwood Head Unit and with my Range Rover and they work fine....pair and operate.

I have the same set up as above...I am just going to see if it pairs with my Macbook Pro...

You may want to read what I posted again.

    1. It refers to what an iPhone will do with a computer via Bluetooth.

2: An iPhone will pair to a computer for personal hotspot if your plan supports it. That is the only thing it is designed to pair to a computer for.

3: My post did not say that an iPhone will not pair to cars and other devices for other purposes. They are not computers.

I agree that it won't act as a personal hotspot via Bluetooth if it won't pair -- but it will pair for that.

My post clearly said and I stand by the statement: "An iPhone is not designed to pair via Bluetooth to a computer (Mac or Windows) except for personal hotspot and then only if your cellular plan supports it."

The following lists the supported profiles: iOS: Supported Bluetooth profiles - Apple Support

That was a much more succinct reply than mine!
