Calendar appointments that add GMT times

iPhone 5s with 8.1.2 ios

When I enter a new appointment into my iPhone 5s calendar at 1pm Denver time zone, it adds the appointment, but then within seconds it also adds a GMT (+7 hours) time and then changes my appointment to show the appt at 8pm GMT. This just recently started happening since I did the last update to my iOS a week ago.

I've checked my Settings>About>Date & Time> Set Automatically "off", Time Zone "Denver".

Also I've checked Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Time Zone Override "on", Time Zone "Denver".

Any help to get my appointments fixed would be appreciated

I Found this on a Google forum:

jkirk above may need a Xanax, but he's right about this:

"It's an Apple iOS 8.1.2 issue because the common denominator is iOS, not Apple's Mac OS desktop platform, not Windows, not Android, Windows Phone, or Blackberry - all of which continue to work seamlessly with unchanged Google Calendar. Google Calendar hasn't changed; iOS 8 has changed with issues galore. It's on Apple's end."

This is 100% an issue with Apple iOS 8.x It is not a Google issue. I have had this issue since the iOS 8 update in September and I use Microsoft Exchange to sync my devices. I don't use a single Google product for anything. Also, there's no need to speculate about this.....APPLE HAS CONFIRMED THIS IS DUE TO A BUG IN IOS 8.X. They are working on a fix and it will supposedly be included in the next iOS update (8.1.3).

If you want to see what causes this bug to show up, both with Google Calendar and MS Exchange, here's a great article about it:

http://blog.appriver.com/2014/12/ios-8-calendar-events-display-dual-time-zones/

The problem is that buggy code in iOS 8 somehow picks up the system time clock setting of the actual physical hardware that your user account resides on, and then transposes your appointments to whatever time zone that is set to. If it is set to the same time zone as your iOS device then you won't see anything weird. If it isn't, you will see all your appointments get transposed to the timezone the server is set to....usually GMT. I am not talking about your user "settings" on the server. I am talking about what the actual clock on the hardware is set to on whatever server your account sits on in the banks of Google's servers.

Google didn't create this problem and Google can't fix it. Don't waste your time trying to pursue it with Google. The best thing you can do is submit a bug report to Apple:

http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Even better, if you are willing to be on hold for a while, call AppleCare and initiate an advanced tech support case. Call 877-203-0418. Do not waste time talking to the first-tier tech. They will.....even three months after reports were submitted about this...still tell you "we have never heard of that before." Immediately ask to have your case ESCALATED. By the time you are talking with 2nd or 3rd tier support they will confirm they are aware of this. Register your case anyway. The more registered them more likely a fix is going to come sooner than later.

Good luck.

SuperJPark,

I do use Google Calendar/Email. I checked the settings there and although it uses the GMT format it shows the correct time zone on my Google Calendar when accessed from the web. I did see in another forum that others not using Google are having the same problem. Hopefully there's a solution soon, I heavily rely on my calendar for work.

I also have this problem with GMT in my Calendar. I have made sure that my iCloud has my correct time zone. I have set up my calendar with my correct time zone. My iPhone has my correct time zone. I have even cleared and reset all data on my iphone and no matter what I do, IS 8 has a bug with the calendar. The only way around not having GMT time (other than making and editing the event) is to rev back to an older version of IS. I did call Apple and they were UNABLE to fix the problem, hence it is a bug and I hope Apple will fix it as I rely on my calendar.

I am having this same problem. Never had this before the last update (maybe even the one before that?) I use Google calendar and have tried creating events from my phone and from my laptop. Events from my laptop, that then sync with my phone, seem to be okay. However, events made from my phone (99% are created there) then quickly add the GMT time. If I then go "edit" the event, it only shows the GMT time (for me it would be 7:00 pm instead of 1:00 pm) and I have to calculate the original time and then make sure I have manually updated the Time zone yet again. So incredibly frustrating.

I do feel it's something with Google, but it is indeed a bug with the update. Help please - so frustrating!
