Macbook pro weak and slow..

Problem description:

My macbook pro has been running very slow for the past 6 months. I just changed my HD to an SSD drive thinking it would fix the issue but it hasn’t. Videos run behind audio, and pro app like logic are taking immense amount of memory and crashing.. Even netflix videos are not working properly.. (Videos latency compared to audio) Would anyone please help?? Thanks.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take an action that isn't working the way you expect. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name or email address, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

your mac is irritatingly infected:

download AdwareMedic from thesafemac.com and run it. This will remove that. then we'll see about the rest.

Thank you both for the reply. I actually ran the AdwareMedic yesterday from seeing Lex's other posts and it made a big difference already! Everything seems to be working better now. I'm sure there are probably more stuff i would need to do though...

I propose to uninstall the extensions in Safari that are left in SafariPreferences->Extensions. If you are looking for ad blocking use Adblock, not Adblock Plus: information on the same site thesafemac.com.

Check that you have the latest update of CarbonCopyCloner (v4), if not update.

Same for FCP.

Then it seems that you have two versions of DigiDesign in SystemPreferences, why? Uninstall what you do not need, check the Yosemite compatibility, do not have them start automatically: remove from MacintoshHD->Users&Groups->LoginItems with the minus sign.

I am not familiar with AudioKontrol, brauchst ** das und ist es völlig Yosemite kompatibel? Take it out of the LoginItems too.

Are the NI drivers/software compatible with Yosemite? What is it for? Take it out of the LoginItems too.

If you have the Canon printer, do NOT take the scanner driver out of the LoginItems.

I would uninstall Growl (Notifications is better) and FanControl (not needed for mac), and all Digidesign that you do not need or is not compatible (SysPref).

In MacintoshHD>Library>LaunchDaemons delete the ....adobe.switchboard... entry.

I am sure that Roxio is a troublemaker... .-), get something else when desperately needed.

Then you have some items I am not familiar with: caiaq, wibo, line6, nativeInstruments, Steinberg, exirion, and at the moment I do not have the time to research it seriously.

Do above and see how it goes.

Thank you so much for the info!! I've followed the steps you mentioned and removed most of the unnecessary stuff. (Digidesign, Growl, adobe.switchboard, etc..) Most of the other items such as line6, NI (Native instruments), audio control are needed for my production studio softwares.

I remember adding the FanControl when I first changed my hard drive, the fans were going out of control at first. I just updated to SSD, and I'm Not sure if I need it or maybe just an SSD fan control.

I'm extremely happy with the results!

I'm still running OS 10.9.4 Mavericks. (Want to make sure all the software companies catch up with the new OS update first)

You do not need FanControl: when your mac runs hot, you must find out why and correct it, not putting Fan Control in to let the fans run higher!

An SSD uses less energy and thus is not as warm as a HDD. Good.

So I am happy that you have it under control. Update Mavericks and know that Yosemite uses more resources than Mavericks. So unless you really nee some of the new features of Yosemite, there is no need to step forward on this trail 😀.
