How Do I Prioritize jobs in Compressor 4?
Every week I encode several videos to multiple formats using Compressor. Each video is prepared in FCPX and exported as ProRes 422 files to be processed in Compressor. I like the convenience of being able to drag a video onto Compressor and then drop multiple encoding presets onto it and process a batch. But I find that I have no control over the prioritization of the encoding process. For example, I want to encode a video into three versions. One version is a high resolution mp4 format that I save for local storage and is of low priority. I am in no real hurry for this file to complete. But I am also encoding into two other formats that I want to upload to my web server as soon as possible– a more compressed mp4 version and a m4v version. I would like these two versions to utilize the full resources of my quad core Mac Pro before attention is turned to the low priority file. But I haven't been able to figure out how to prioritize this work. It seems that before the two high priority files are encoded, Compressor begins working on the third low priority encoding job. I'm assuming that this is just slowing down my high priority work since my computer resources are being routed to the low priority work.
Is there a way to "tell" Compressor to do a rush job on the two important encoding projects and save the third job for later?
