How do I get rid of the OS X update banner? in Mountain Lion. I have gone to software update in the System prefs. I have unchecked "automatically check for updates". I have signed in to the app store and right clicked to hide update on all the updates. I have done this on both my laptop and iMac. Still the banner pops up every few minutes- very distracting, getting sick of it. Help!

If so, you can't. It's just Apple self advertising the latest 'n' greatest OS. It even appears on systems where Yosemite is already installed.
No, I mean the small banner that appears in the top right corner along with email notices.
Sorry, can't help with that one. I don't use Apple's Mail app.
Thanks, but I actually like the mail notification. I'm trying to get rid of the "OS X Updates Available". banner that pops up every 5 minutes.
I don't know if this will "stay" but I just got mine to finally go away! I went to System Prefs and under Notifications, I set the "Do Not Disturb" for 12 am to 12 Pm and so far, it's' working! I also unchecked the badge notifications for each item.
