Firstly you must get rid of Genio.  See this article and follow instructions.

http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php When you have done this disable little snitch and then do another etrecheck report.

i agree completely with seventy one and would add that I Believe that AdwareMedic will also remove Trovi Search adware, and uninstall the Fitbit software, it isn't updated for Yousemite and has been known to cause problems.

There is a lot that could be improved upon when it comes to your Mac, but I would start with an adware check (see the two comments above) and removing FitBit:

See this page and check if the symptoms described there sound familiar

Agree with all three earlier replies. Only thing I might add is that you have a huge bunch of things that are launching automatically, each of which is taking a bite out of your CPU. They may not be adware (which is almost certainly the biggest problem you have), but can suck quite a bit of juice from your machine when you have so many. Take a look at your login items (System prefs, Users&groups, login items tab) and remove any that you are no longer using (hit the "-" button).

    tekhnoir,

The above should be completed. Once completed adding some more RAM would not hurt. It should speed it up more even if you only added 4 gig more. Your system can handle up to 32 gig. Here a couple good places to buy Mac RAM. All you have to do is put in your system and it will tell you what you need. www.crucial.com and www.macsales.com , both are reputable sites. Good Luck and happy computing!

Okay; removing Geneio seems to have lost you a lot of red ink but of what remains I would suggest some more removals.

I don't think your RAM is a great problem.   8Gb is more than adequate usually, though it seems to me you play a lot of games.   They may justify more depending on the nature of them.

Adobe switchboard is more often used with windows.   (.exe)    It could be out of date.

You should now remove steamclean and ClamXav.  They are known to club together in unhelpful ways.   You can always re-install ClamXav on its own, afterwards though it is largely for windows in this case.    The Spotify webhelper can use up lots of memory and sometimes creates multiple versions of itself.   Remove that.

Then test again and report back the new etrecheck..

One other small matter.  If you remove the steamclean program, check with the supplier's website because I understand it can be complicated.

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The usual results of posting etrecheck output on this site without a full description of the problem are very poor.

The many "failed" warnings that etrecheck sometimes spews mean nothing. Those warnings are not a reason to reinstall the OS, or to do anything else at all. They should be ignored.

The better your description of the problem, the better the chance of a solution.

For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

You have removed the adware, so that will help. You said it has been running slow for a few months now. How many months exactly? Was there any change to your machine that could have caused the slowdown?

In any event, you are now running Yosemite with only 4 GB RAM. The only way to speed that up is adding more RAM.

No such thing has ever been reported. The word "steamclean" does not appear anywhere in the 9-1/2 year old ClamXav Forum nor can I locate anything here in the ASC forum that indicates something like that.

It would be helpful if you could point out an example so I can test whatever it is you are talking about.

    thank you etresoft

I cant really pinpoint when i noticed the slow down, in Aprila faulty video card shorted out my whole system so i basically have a whole new computer except for my hardrive and my ram,  apple fixed it for free over 1600.00 in repairs, so i agree that i need more ram,  its faster now that i got rid of the adware, but id like to maximize the speed in your opinion should i go for 8 gb or 16 gb of ram would 16 be a waste,  i do use photoshop and illustrator for work and listen to music and watch netflix

    You should get 16GB.

The advice you received to ignore EtreCheck's "failed" warnings is questionable. They do need to be addressed. Those processes are probably being killed due to the "memory pressure" exceeding capacity, so more RAM should help with that, too.
