Q: BootCamp - setup was unable to create a new system partition (Windows 7 on Macbook 2013)

Hey, guys! I need you help!

I have some programs that I need to use but they only adapted for Windows. So i decided to Install Windows 7 on my macbook 2013 (2.6 GHz Intel Core i5 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, OS Yosemite 10.10.1)

My Mac comes without CD-Drive so i downloaded Windows 7 Professional ISO-file from the Web (not from Microsoft official web-site, but from the source i can trust). Truth is, I have a license key as well, but I came across an error while Installing Windows 7.

I used the OS built-it program BootCamp. I created a partition for Windows 7, downloaded all necessary software from Apple and began the installation process.

Everything was fine before i had to choose a partition for Windows 7. I clicked on Disk 0: Partition 4 BOOTCAMP (as it is necessary) and then "Format" button. After that i clicked "next" and I got a message "Setup was unable to create a new system partition". So I stuck there and I cant even use my license key!

I found some solutions for this problem like "try to switch between different USB slots (from left to right and vice versa), use shift+F10 to use a command console and format my partition 4:Bootcamp from there". But it did not help me. I tried different combinations three times yesterday and everything was in vain.

I ran out of ideas, maybe ISO-file i downloaded has something to do with that, i dont know=( I dont wanna try Windows 8, because i dont like it.

Has anyone come up with a different solution to this problem? I really need to install Windows to run some programs so please advice and thx in advance.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

If you use EFI Boot, there is a need for a separate MSR and MSD partitions. If you formatted the partition created by BCA and formatted it to NTFS and could click on Next, you are using the non-EFI setup. These are two contradictory methods of installation.

Which installation type do you want - EFI/Windows or traditional BC/Windows?

    For the traditional BC/Windows route,

    1. Use BCA (Bootcamp Assistant) and if you see a 'Remove...' option, execute it. It cleans up and restores your disk to a partition scheme that can be used by BCA again. Any manipulation of partitions using Disk Utility is not recommended and will cause problems. Unless I misunderstand this statement

    I created a partition for Windows 7

implies that Disk Utility was used to 'manually', and outside the context of BCA, create a partition.

    2. The BCA Guide is How to install Windows using Boot Camp - Apple Support . Some of the material is also referenced in 3. Most of the pre-Windows installation is exclusively done by BCA. You will need a USB, and, if your Mac has/had a built-in Optical drive, it should be functional, and a Windows DVD (retail or burned from an ISO) is needed.

    3. The BC/Windows Installation guide is https://help.apple.com/bootcamp/mac/5.0/help/.
