I just like to stay a version behind and wait until the newer versions get all the bugs and kinks worked out before I upgrade.
Also, it has way more one star reviews than any other, which makes me wary of it.
Since you have waited too long and it is no longer available, I suggest that your create a partition with a clone of your current system. Then install Yosemite and test drive it there. After the test drive if you like it clone the test partition back to your system partition. If not, delete the test partition.
I have been on these forums since 2002 and have gone through numerous upgrades on OS X. From what I have seen, the negative comments on Yosemite actually appear to be less with it then most of the others releases.

To clone your system, you need either SuperDuper or CCC. There are instructions for whichever on you decide on.
