Is there a shortcut for closing gaps in GarageBand?

I'm a voice actor, and I'm recording around 20 auditions a day. After I read a script, I need to edit out my breathes and mistakes quickly. Currently, I have to make a cut, go to the end of the glitch, make other cut, and then pull the two pieces together, being careful to line them up right. It takes a lot of time, considering how many times I have to do this. It would be great if I could just select the section where the breathe or mistake it, and instantly delete it and have the remaining parts join together. Does anyone know if there's a way to do this?

You may have figured this out by now, but just in case-- you can do this a little easier by opening the "editor" view at the bottom (hit "E")

You can zoom in on the spot in there, then use the "crosshairs" to select the unwanted part (they show up when the mouse is on the bottom part of the waveform)

Then go to the "Edit" menu and select "Delete and Move." It SHOULD delete and close the gap, though it's not always consistent. And unfortunately it doesn't seem to have a keyboard shortcut.
