Q: Ram usage.

I was having problems with RAM usage especially after booting Paralles. I upgrade the RAM to 8GB (1067 MHz DDR3), yet the activity monitor still indicates up to 7.99 GB usage when I get Paralles booted up. Needless to say it runs very slow at this time. I also noticed the Ram even after the upgrade to 8GB still shows upwards go 5+GB being used during normal operations (without Paralles booted).

I don't know how to determine what programs and other apps I can close and how to identify them. My system is running OSX 10.9.5 and processor speed is 2.4 GHz, 2Duo.

Any help would be appreciated.

What you are experiencing is probably normal. Read this:

The important parameter is now 'pressure' not the amount. If it is green, you are good to go.
